Join World Youth Advetnures on this superb and all-encompassing expedition to the wild's of America's Western territories. During a series of selected hikes and wildlife watching walks, we will experience the geysers, giant waterfalls, prolific wildlife and valleys full of boiling mud pots in Yellowstone, trek in the Grand Canyon and hike in the dramatic Rocky Mountains. We journey deep into Utah and explore the ancient landscapes at Bryce Canyon National Park and Zion National Park to give a well rounded experience for all, finishing in the bright lights of Las Vegas
Upon arrival in Las Vegas you will be met by a representative of World Youth Adventures and transferred to the La Quinta group hotel. This afternoon is free to take a walk along the famous Las Vegas strip.
This morning you will leave Las Vegas and travel by private vehicle to one of the great wonders of the world, the Grand canyon. The drive is 6 hours through the hot deserts of Nevada making for a great scenic route. Your guides will give you a trip briefing along the way and you will stop to take pictures as you make your way to your camp ground for the night. Once the camp is all set up you will go for a walk around the area before enjoying your first camp dinner.
Waking up early you have the full day at this amazing site. First off you will join your leader for a leisurely stroll around the Rim ( park regulations prevent guides actually conducting tours around the Grand canyon), where incredible views can be enjoyed. This area around the Rim is often referred to as the geology walk due to the rock formations found here. Along the way you will learn about the spectacular rocks that make this place so unique. This afternoon you will join the local ranger activities or walk along the many sign posted trails around the Canyon. There is time to enjoy an unforgettable sunset before you head back to your campsite. Ranger activities will be confirmed nearer to the time.
You journey on by road through the Painted Desert to Page ( approx 3 hours) this morning. Here you will do the 2 mile walk to Horse shoe Bend , an incredible scenic route. There is an optional excursion to Antelope Canyon, to explore “the” classic slot canyon that comes to life through the sun rays coming through the gaps. Continuing on you drive to the world famous Monument Valley of the Navajo tribe. Here, giant rock domes and mesas rise out of the valley into the blue sky and offer the opportunity for excellent pictures. For decades, the area has been used by Hollywood as a favourite movie backdrop. After the camp is set up you will have a walk to the rim for another unforgettably sunset before returning for a delicious camp dinner.
This morning you can either take part in an optional unforgettable jeep tour with
the Navajos through the valley to the hidden beauty spots such as ‘Ear of the
Wind’ and ‘Big Hogan’, or a guided hike to the East and West Mitten Buttes two distinctive geological features found within Monument Valley. Continuing on from Monument Valley you will drive to Moab, approximately 3 hours. En route you will stop at the Edge of Cedars Museum. This museum is unique as it is located at the site of an Ancient Pueblo Indian ruin. You will learn about the Ancient Indians and their prehistoric lifestyle. At Moab you will set up camp where you will stay for the next three nights and prepare dinner.
Today you spend the day in Arches National Park. The park is located on the Colorado River 6 km north of Moab and contains the world’s largest concentration of natural sandstone arches. As you trek you will be surrounded by colossal sandstone fins, massive balanced rocks, soaring pinnacles and spires that will amaze you.
Today you will visit another remarkable and unique park, which is renowned and aptly called Canyonlands. Here you will explore the countless canyons and fantastically formed buttes carved by the Colorado River. Throughout the park the River can be seen even when you are walking through a primitive desert atmosphere. One to have your camera ready for!
Breaking camp you leave Moab and drive the 6 hours to Idaho Falls. It is nestled among the Rocky Mountains in the Snake River Plains, beneath the shadow of the Grand Teton. You will notice the scenery changing today as you drive to your next campsite and you will make stops along the way.
Our task today will be to work side by side with the Jackson Hole Wildlife Foundation to help dismantle a long fence that is harming local wildlife. This is our chance to give something back to the natural wilderness we are enjoying on this trip by volunteering with this local charity. We will spend the night at the Gros Ventre campground, beautifully located close to the mountains and surrounding forest.
We will head to the world famous Yellowstone National park to discover some of the extraordinary flora and fauna that live here, such as bear, wolf, elk and bison. Over the next two days you will explore the park by foot, learning about the special ecosystem and taking in the great outdoors! You will hike to the top of Mount Washburn, where you often see wild goats, hike along the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone for amazing views along its rim,explore the area around Old Faithful where you walk through geothermal pools of multiple colours as well as explore the areas around Grand Prismatic Spring, Norris Geysir Basin. Keep an eye out for Bison Herds and wolves.
Exploring the natural wonders of Yellowstone National Park
This morning you explore the steep mountain range located on a slip fault of Grand Teton. Here you can enjoy an invigorating walk along the base of Grand Teton along String and Leigh Lake with great views throughout. After lunch you will drive to Montpellier approximately a 4 hour drive to your next campsite.
Zion National Park is located at the junction of the Colorado Plateau, Great Basin and Mojave desert provinces. It is known for its soaring red cliff walls of deep red sandstone that have been sculptured by the Virgin River and that soar as high as 800 metres. At Zion you will stay at the Zion Ponderosa Ranch, an exciting adventure lodge with plenty of optional activities that you can pay for locally as well as stunning scenic walking trails. Food will be prepared and eaten at the restaurant onsite with a variety of food available.
Today you will spend the day taking part in optional activities around the ranch that are paid locally. Zion Ponderosa offers a wide array of on-property activities including hiking, rock climbing, cycling, climbing wall, zip lining and many more.
For many visitors Bryce Canyon ranks among the most beautiful in the USA.You will explore the surreal formations that characterize the park where erosion has shaped colourful Clarion limestones, sandstones and mudstones into thousands of spines, fins, pinnacles and mazes. Hiking trails wind through red and pink stone towers glowing in the sunlight. The color contrast between the red rocks, green of the pines, and blue of the sky delight every photographer and nature lover. Bryce offers fantastic programs run with the Rangers to enhance your experience like a Geology Walk to discuss the current scientific explanation behind Bryce Canyon’s unique geologic history and evening programs that offer an in-depth look at some of the compelling stories and interesting resources that Bryce Canyon protects. You will return to Zion Ponderosa Ranch for the night.
Today you will take the opportunity to explore this dramatic landscape of canyons, domes and soaring cliffs with a walk to Angel’s Landing, a huge sandstone dome rising over the narrow valley of the Virgin River. You will have a picnic lunch in the park with the via ferrata as your backdrop before returning for your final night at the Ranch.
Leaving early you will drive back to Las Vegas arriving around noon. After check in is complete you have free time to explore this busting city before a final farewell dinner.
Depending on your flight you may have free time in the morning before your airport transfer.
