Trip Summary

The Kingdom of Thailand is located in the center of the Indochinese peninsula in Southeast Asia. It is a land rich in history and culture, a land of the new and the old, with bustling cities and laid back rural lifestyle and a cuisine second to none. This itinerary begins in Bangkok, where we explore a little before flying to the north-eastern province of Surin where we’ll contribute to an under-privileged primary school in Ban Tar Klang village. The school community will welcome KIS JeJu students and teachers warmly, full of gratitude because the donation we bring will build a wall around the school to keep the younger students safe from the road, improve the unsafe playground and renovate the dilapidated school canteen. They are very enthusiastic about working alongside KIS JeJu students to complete these tasks. We learn how to make recycled paper products from elephant dung and we visit one of Thailand’s most reputable wildlife rescue centers, all before returning to Bangkok.

Suitability

Our service learning adventures can be undertaken by anyone with a reasonable level of health and fitness. For the community project part of your trip you will not require a certain level of strength or physical ability, just an enthusiastic and positive attitude. A project manager will direct and distribute the workloads among participants on a daily basis. There is no pressure to exert yourself physically beyond your limits during the project but you should be prepared to give 4 hours of physical labour each day.
